Today we celebrate the birthday of  Mark Twain, author of Huckleberry Finn , The Adventures of Tom Sawyer as well as many others!

Here are some entertaining fun facts about the famous Twain…

His birth name was Samuel Longhorne Clemens, Mark Twain was just a nickname (along with Thomas Jefferson Snodgrass)

Haley’s Comet was visible in the sky both on the night that Mark Twain was born and on the night he passed away.

Mark Twain published more than 30 books throughout his career.

“Huckleberry Finn” was ranked as the fifth most frequently challenged book in the United States by the American Library Association.

He named his dogs I Know ,You Know and Don’t Know.

He once snuck onto a steam boat and was found by a sailor after it had left the dock.

When Twain was 12, his father died of pneumonia, and at 13, he left school to become a printer’s apprentice.

He witnessed quite a few murders.
