Happy Poultry Day!!! Today we celebrate the chicken, turkey and other birds we commonly consume (or keep as pets!)

Poultry FUN facts!!!

1. There are more chickens living on earth than people…they may or may not be plotting to take over the world!

2. Chickens can run at a speed of 9 mph.

3. In the chicken capital of the world, Gainesville, Georgia, it is illegal to eat chicken with a fork.

4. A hen can lay about 300 eggs each year.

5. So that the yoke does not stick to the egg shell, a mother hen turns it egg about 50 times each day (that is devotion!)

6. A hen lives an average of 5-7 years, but can live up to 20 years.

7. The heaviest turkey ever raised weighed in at 86 pounds, about the size of a large German Shepherd!

8. “Alektorophobia” is the fear of chickens. People who are scared of this feathered fowl are terrified at the sight of any chicken, real or not (obviously!), terrified when they hear the sound of a chicken even when there isn’t one (cluck, CLUCK!), become scared when people even say the word chicken and cannot even eat chicken because it reminds them of there fear!!!
